1955 Alfa Romeo 1900 S S coachwork by Ghia
- CHASSISNO. 01949 , ENG.NO. AR1308*00955* This beautiful car is the work of one of Italy's most famous coachbuilders, Carrozeria Ghia. Despite the death of of its founder Glacinto Ghia during worldwar II and the damage to the factory sustained at that time ,the company , based in Turin , was extremely succesful because of the many talents hired such as Giovanni Michelotti ,Pietro Frua , Mario Boano and last but not least Giovanni Savonuzzi. The unusual , Ghia bodied 1900 bears much resemblance to the famous Carrozzeria Bertone BAT aerodynamic experiments. Those BAT cars ,were originally commisioned to test new theories in aerodynamics and WERE BASED ON THE 1900..Only 3 of those were built. This particular 1900 SS is as mentioned , Ghia bodied and is all aluminium. According to the factory records it is one of only nine 1900 SS Ghia bodied examples in the world. She sports a four cylinder dual overhead camshaft engine with two double downdraft Solex 40 DII carburators , combined with a five-speed floorshift manual transmission. The car seems all original ; chrome is nice and paint is very presentable , as is the interior. Engine runs and sounds very nice and there are no signs of any rust. It may not be in super show condition , but it is a very nice looking car , ready for you to enjoy , and eligible for events like the Mille Miglia etc. This car has been in Great Britain , and I have some documentation regarding that , so there may not be any importation fees to Europe.. Also , I found a tag from a Monte Carlo ralley on the car , and a picture taken with it on the car , taken in Europe.
This car is a true work of art ; just a breathtakingly beautiful design..I gotta give it to them ; the Italians know how to build a sexy car ! Sorry , SOLD
